We have formed a community group to buy/invest in a part of the Portland Trail Blazers.  A large percentage of the annual profits will also go back to the community!

Whether you support the community, the team, want an investment and/or any perks, we invite you to join!

TOTAL PLEDGES SO FAR:  $1,450,940

SUMMARY

Buy The Blazers is mainly an effort to give back to the community.  The Blazers generate over $300 million in revenue annually.  Tapping into those dollars can mean tens of millions for investors, the region and beyond.  But, it doesn't stop there - we will give a large percentage of the annual earnings to continually benefit charities and those in need!  Here are some reasons to support this...

OVERVIEW

The NBA's Portland Trail Blazers are for sale.  The owners, The Estate of Paul Allen, announced the intended sale on May 13, 2025.

Our group, "Buy The Blazers", will invest in the purchase, either wholly or partially.  Currently, we are forming the full group and seeking sign-ups to show support, as well as non-binding pledges of varying monetary levels.

Please continue to read below for the goals, our unique approach and other relevant particulars.

GOALS

The main goal of "Buy The Blazers" is to secure what will likely be a partial share of the Portland Trail Blazers.

The franchise is valued at approximately $3.5 Billion and we anticipate the selling price to be in the range of $4 Billion.

Our stretch goal is for a 25% share, with our lowest goal being 5%.

APPROACH

Our approach to this is somewhat unique.  We are based in community, which we feel is a reflection of how Oregon and the region is in general.  Hence, the raise will be accomplished via crowdfunding.

In this way, the public (you!) will own a percentage of the team, with a portion of the profits going to back into community funds, non-profits, charitable organizations and supporting those in need.

Paul Allen himself specified that all proceeds from the team's sale be directed to philanthropy.  Buy The Blazers is simply looking to continue that wonderful mantra in an ongoing fashion.

We are open to examining the option of forming an applicable business structure as the buying/investing entity.

INVESTORS

Investors are Oregonians, Washingtonians, and any other interested individuals, parties, companies, civic organizations, municipalities, etc.  We are currently determining the ROI specifics.  Dividends on profits and, of course, a larger return on any liquidity event are in the mix.

The population of Oregon is roughly 4.5 million people (Portland's population is about 650,000, as is the population of SW Washington state).  We estimate about one quarter of this total audience are viable as investors who could become involved at some level.

Utilizing our stretch goal (above), having average donations be close to $1,000 per person would total $1 billion, which is an estimated 25% ownership share.

CASE STUDY

The Green Bay Packers football team has been a publicly owned company since 1923.  The team has been quite successful, winning multiple championships, including four Superbowls.

The team has roughly 500,000 shareholders.  The population of Wisconsin is about 6 million.

The Packers are valued at about $6.5 billion and, somewhat amazingly, the shareholders do not get any dividends.  However, they do have voting rights when it comes to the Board of Directors.

The Packers are more than just a football team.  "Their unique fan ownership model, deep-rooted community involvement, continuous investment in their iconic stadium, passionate fanbase, and legacy of success all contribute to their distinctive identity. The Packers are not just a team; they are a community, a tradition, and a source of pride for Green Bay and beyond."

While we do not envision the same share-selling model, this is a testament to what The Trail Blazers and the region can be!

TEAM BENEFITS

Further activation of the state-wide fanbase is a core benefit to the Trail Blazers themselves.  Supporting public investment in the team locks in lifelong backing in a tangible, overt fashion.  The PR almost writes itself.  Additionally, the word-of-mouth marketing is near immeasurable.  And... social media.

Ticket sales would likely see a boost in both the short- and long-term, as would merchandising and general engagement.  Television viewing and streaming increases can be a tremendous additional benefit.

Of course, having a stronger community throughout the state can only help everyone.

The direct and indirect benefits work in circular conjunction... the success of the team benefits the community and, in turn, the success of the community benefits the team!

COMMUNITY

The community - the entire state of Oregon at large (and Washington) will benefit from this investment.

We will set up a process whereby charities and other organizations can be funded accordingly.

Buy The Blazers also envisions educational scholarships and creating a business incubator (or working with existing ones) so that the return on investment to the community can grow exponentially.

Of course, having the Blazers receive even more fan support will help them to be valued even higher, meaning more community investment!

TIMING

The fact that the team is for sale right now demands action.  Beyond that, there are a number of attractive factors to consider...

The NBA Finals, NBA Draft buzz, and the return of Damian Lillard(!) are upon us.  Announcing this effort to the masses presently optimizes the formal rollout - there can be no better time.

Over the last couple of decades, "The average price of an NBA franchise jumped by +1,057%." That figure more than doubles the increase in the S & P 500 during the same timespan.

The Blazers are the second youngest team in the NBA (Oklahoma City Thunder).  The team's record over the later half of the most recent season was 23 - 18, which, projected to a full season, would have qualified for the playoffs.  In short;  We've Got Next!

PARTNERSHIPS

While we are making inroads on formal partnerships, we would love to work with many non-profits and organizations such as these:
